CALGARY – The University of Calgary Dinos women's soccer team opened its home schedule with a 2-1 win over the University of Alberta Pandas on Friday at McMahon Stadium, riding a pair of first-half goals to move to 3-0-0 on the season.
Playing in front of a home crowd for the first time this season, Calgary set the tone early and never trailed, though Alberta made things interesting with a second-half goal that cut into the lead. The result dropped the Pandas to 1-2-0.
Danica Pullishy opened the scoring in the 20th minute, heading in a feed from
Rowyn James for her first goal of the season.
Erica Mysko doubled the advantage in the 33rd minute, pouncing on an unlucky bounce off Alberta to beat goalkeeper Tessa Borrelli for her own first goal of the year.
"It was really great to have a time with my team to celebrate and feel good about our performance" Mysko said of scoring her first goal since returning from a season-long injury in 2024.
Calgary controlled play for the rest of the half and finished with a wide 17-3 edge in shots, with Borrelli making six saves to keep Alberta within reach. Alberta got on the board in the 72nd minute when Izzy Amico got in behind the Calgary defence and beat goalkeeper
Cheridan Johnson into an open net for her third goal of the season, but the Dinos held firm from there.
"I am just trying to be positive and supportive for my teammates and seeing all the young girls come in and watching them get to go on and do well has just been really awesome to see," explained Mysko, who looks forward to playing an expanded role in her fourth season with the team.
