TORONTO – University of Calgary Dinos women's hockey head coach Josh Gosling will lead Canada's defending gold-medal women's hockey team at the 2027 Winter Universiade in Changchun, China.

Gosling has led the Dinos women's hockey program since May 2024, after previously serving as associate head coach. He joined the Dinos in 2021 following five seasons at Edge School, where he was head coach of the under-17 program.

His background also includes several roles within Hockey Alberta's high-performance program. A Hockey Canada-certified skills coach, Gosling has worked extensively in player development, talent identification, recruiting, team selection and high-performance program development.

Gosling's staff includes two former Canadian student-athletes with Winter Universiade experience. Queen's head coach Morgan McHaffie represented Canada at two Winter Universiades, winning gold as an alternate captain in 2013 and silver in the same role in 2015. Toronto Metropolitan assistant coach Celine Frappier helped Canada complete an undefeated run to the women's hockey gold medal at the 2023 FISU Winter World University Games in Lake Placid, N.Y., serving as an alternate captain.

Rounding out the women's staff are UPEI's Sean Fisher and Saskatchewan's Steve Kook as assistant coaches, along with RMC physiotherapist Nikki Antonopoulos.

Gosling's men's counterpart, UPEI Panthers head coach Forbes MacPherson, is entering his 18th season behind the Panthers' bench and his third FISU assignment with Canada, having served as an assistant coach on Canada's gold-medal-winning men's teams in 2013 and 2025. Toronto Metropolitan's John Duco and RMC's Richard Lim also return from Canada's 2025 gold-medal staff, joined by Concordia's Marc-André Element, TMU's Kevin Campbell, UQTR's Kyle Sutton and Brock's T.J. Manastersky.

Canada's hockey rosters will be announced in the coming months as preparations continue for the Winter Universiade, scheduled for Jan. 15-25, 2027.
