WINNIPEG – It was a record-breaking first day of action for the University of Calgary Dinos track & field program as they kicked off the first of three days of competition at the 2026 U SPORTS Championships hosted by the University of Manitoba inside the James Daly Fieldhouse.
Through just four scored events on the women's side, Calgary has nine points, while the Dinos men claimed two points through the first three scored events on that side.
The headlines came from the final event of the night – the men's 4x200m relay. Running in the opening preliminary heat, the pairing of
Harman Kailey,
Ethan Parnetta,
River Sanoy and
Devon Zuchotzki crossed the line in 1:27.30 – taking down the previous school record of 1:27.32 that had stood since 2008. The previous record was set by Evan Kimick, Michael Saizew, Justin Sinclair and Dinos Hall of Famer Sam Effah. That time also advanced this year's time into Saturday's final.
On the women's side,
Hannah Hurtubise,
Georgia Oland,
Kristen Fox and
Emma Parnetta clocked a time of 1:38.29 – also flirting with a school record – to qualify for the final.
It was a big showing for the Dinos in the opening event of the meet – the 60m.
Sienna MacDonald brought home a bronze medal with a career-best time of 7.42 seconds to lead the way, while
Georgia Oland also scored with an eighth-place finish. On the men's side,
Tyler Milev continued his impressive season by finishing seventh in the nation with a finals time of 6.80 seconds.
In the lone other scored event on the day for the Dinos,
Sarah Feschuk had another strong showing in the pentathlon. Just two weeks removed from bringing home Canada West gold with a score of 3478 points, Feschuk added nearly 100 points to her total and finished the five-discipline event Thursday with 3570 points, good for seventh overall on the day.
Competition results Friday at 12 p.m. MT with field events. The first open running events of Day 2 are scheduled to get underway at 3 p.m. MT.
