CALGARY – After an impressive first season at university level, Mrigendra Dhaliwal of the University of Calgary Dinos men's basketball team has been named to the Canada West All-Rookie Team, the league office announced Thursday.

A 6-foot-2 guard that just graduated from high school (Edge) a few months ago, Dhaliwal made an immediate impact with the Dinos. In just his second game, he erupted for 37 points in a road win over Lethbridge. That proved to be the third-highest point total by any player in Canada West all season.

The Calgary native was a regular in the starting lineup the entirety of the second semester - a move that paid immediate dividends, leading all players with 29 points in 31 minutes a convincing win over Regina Jan. 9. 

In all, the rookie finished with a team-high 12.8 points per game before pouring in 35 in the Dinos first two playoff games this postseason. Dhaliwal also finished the regular season with 46 rebounds, 44 assists, 32 steals and seven blocks. 

Dhaliwal and the Dinos are now waiting until March 6-8 when they host this year's U SPORTS Final 8 inside the Jack Simpson Gym.
