CALGARY – Addi White had a hand in both goals as the University of Calgary Dinos women's soccer team stayed perfect with a 2-0 win over the University of Saskatchewan Huskies on Sunday at McMahon Stadium.
The victory improves the Dinos to 9-0-0 in Canada West play, while Saskatchewan falls to 5-3-2.
After sustaining some early pressure, Calgary broke through in the 30th minute. White won the ball back during a threatening Saskatchewan press and delivered a cross to Sofia DiGiacomo, who headed it in for her fifth goal of the season.
The Dinos doubled the advantage inside the first minute after halftime. Sarah Donick worked her way down the left side and played a dangerous cross into the area, finding White who found the net for her third goal of the season.
Donick finished with the assist and four shots, three of them on target. DiGiacomo also had four shots, three on target. Calgary outshot Saskatchewan 16-4 and put nine shots on target to the Huskies' two.
Goalkeeper Cheridan Johnson made two saves she faced to earn the shutout. At the other end, Alyssa Paydli made seven saves for Saskatchewan.
"Getting a result against a big opponent like Saskatchewan is always rewarding," White said. "The goal to make it 2-0 really killed their rhythm, and it was key to get it early in the second half."
White said the team's mood has stayed upbeat as the season rolls on.
"We've been full of positivity and high energy," she said. "We're now over halfway through the season, and we feel honoured to be in this position and to keep the undefeated streak going."
The Dinos will return to action Friday, Oct. 9, at 6 p.m. when they host the Mount Royal University Cougars. Tickets are available at GoDinos.com/Tickets.
Saskatchewan will host the MacEwan University Griffins on Saturday, Oct. 17, at noon.
