CALGARY – The University of Calgary Dinos women's soccer team made quick work of the University of Regina Cougars on Friday night, rolling to a 5-0 victory at McMahon Stadium.
The win improves the Dinos to 8-0-0 on the season and in Canada West play, while Regina falls to 1-8-0.
Calgary controlled the game from the opening whistle, outshooting the Cougars 23-3 and leading 3-0 at halftime.
Nicki Filek posted a shutout in her university debut, making three saves, and Regina didn't register a shot in the second half.
The Cougars put the ball into their own net in the fourth minute, off a delivery from
Brooke Batty, to hand Calgary the early lead. In the 17th minute,
Jaden Tomaszewski played a cross into the box and
Erica Mysko headed it home to make it 2-0.
The third goal came in the 27th minute, when
Sarah Donick worked her way down the left side and sent a cross to
Ella Djuranic, who made no mistake with a header. Djuranic added her second of the game in the 62nd minute, and
Elaina Tetteh-Wayoe capped the scoring late in the second half. Tomaszewski finished with two assists.
"It felt really good tonight," Djuranic said. "It's a confidence booster, and our team's dynamic has been extremely evident this season."
"We're looking forward to Sunday's matchup," she added. "We need to come out ruthless and build off tonight's win, and bring the same energy and determination into that game."
