Dinos blank Pronghorns 3-0 for 11th straight win

CALGARY – The University of Calgary Dinos women's soccer team made it 11 straight wins to start the season Thursday, blanking the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns 3-0 at McMahon Stadium.

The victory keeps the Dinos perfect at 11-0-0 in both overall and Canada West play, while the Pronghorns fall to 2-8-1.

Calgary controlled the match from the opening whistle, finishing with a 15-1 edge in shots and seven shots on target to none for the Pronghorns. The Dinos put 10 shots on net in the first half alone, but Lethbridge goalkeeper Kate Prince, who made four saves, kept the game scoreless for most of it.

The breakthrough came five minutes before halftime. Ella Djuranic opened the scoring, brilliantly finishing off a pass from Mykena Walker by lifting the ball over the goalkeeper from distance for her sixth goal of the season.

The Dinos doubled their lead six minutes into the second half. Elaina Tetteh-Wayoe scored her third of the season, finishing the ball inside the Pronghorns box following a corner, with Jaden Tomaszewski earning her fourth assist of the season.

Rowyn James made it 3-0 in the 66th minute, scoring her first goal of the season seconds after a Kaleigh Major corner kick. Major, who was credited with the assist, led the Dinos with five shots and sent in a number of the team's seven corner kicks.

At the other end, Dinos goalkeeper Cheridan Johnson recorded the shutout without needing to make a save. Lethbridge's lone shot of the game was a header by Valentina Migliaccio that went wide in the first half.

The Dinos will return to action Friday, Oct. 16 at 6 p.m. when they host the Pronghorns again at McMahon Stadium. Tickets are available at GoDinos.com/Tickets.

Following the rematch in Calgary, Lethbridge will host the University of Saskatchewan Huskies on Saturday, Oct. 24.
