CALGARY – Gabriella Cross of the University of Calgary Dinos wrestling team has been named the Canada West BioSteel Women's Wrestler of the Week, the league office annoucned Tuesday.

It was a successful return to the mat this weekend for Cross. The reigning U SPORTS Outstanding Wrestler of the Year competed for the first time this season and picked up right where she left off, winning the gold medal at the annual Golden Bears Open this Saturday.

Cross started with a pin in just 29 seconds in her first bout, before picking up convincing tech fall wins to advance to the championship match. Going against a professional wrestler from BC, Cross earned a 6-3 decision to top her weight class.

That was just the beginning of a memorable weekend for Cross, as she was named as one of the U SPORTS Top 8 Academic All-Canadians Monday afternoon.

Cross and the Dinos now turn their attention to championship wrestling, starting Feb. 14 with the 2026 Canada West Championships, hosted this year by Alberta.
