Dinos cruise to 3-0 start at CW Championships

EDMONTON – It was a perfect start to the 2026 Canada West Championships for the University of Calgary Dinos Thursday, as Calgary cruised to three wins on the opening day from inside the Saville Centre.

Calgary powered to three convincing wins over Lethbridge, Victoria and Regina and sits tied for the top spot through Day 1.

Draw 1 – vs. Lethbridge
The Dinos showed they were ready right out of the gates, tallying five in the opening end of the tournament against Lethbridge. Calgary never slowed down, racking up another four in the third for a commanding lead before finishing things off with an 11-2 win after five ends.

Draw 2 – vs. Victoria
Calgary had another strong start in the second draw of the day against Victoria, scoring seven in the first end. They followed that up by stealing two in the second end for an immediate insurmountable lead before finishing things off again with an 11-2 score after five ends.

Draw 3 – vs. Regina
The final draw of the night proved to be the closest of Day 1 for the Dinos, going up against defending conference champion Regina. After a scoreless opening end, Calgary tallied one in the second before stealing three in the third. The Cougars answered back with one in the fourth but another three-spot in the fifth was all that was needed for the 7-1 win.

Day 2 sees the Dinos go up against UBCO (9:00 AM), Thompson Rivers (2:00 PM) and Brandon (7:00 PM).
