Late push not enough in loss, 77-71

BOX SCORE CALGARY – A fourth-quarter push by the University of Calgary Dinos wasn't enough as they fell, 77-71, to Regina Saturday afternoon from the Jack Simpson Gym.

The win extends the Cougars win streak to 12 as they now start the conference slate at 12-0, while the Dinos fall to 10-2.

Jade Belmore finished with a team-high 16 points and nine rebounds to lead the way for Regina. Izzi Fust (15 points), Eden Wells (14), and Rachel Vanderhooft (10) all also scored in double figures for the Cougars in this one.

Christine Geraldo paced the way for the Dinos with 15 points on 7-15 shooting. Kourtney Oss chipped in with her second double-double in the last three games with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

The Dinos opened the game with energy, putting together a four-point run in the first two minutes. Regina responded quickly. Fust and Belmore combined for a seven-point surge that swung momentum and forced Calgary into chase mode.

Amelie Collin tied the game for Calgary, and Oss helped the Dinos regain the lead. Calgary held that edge until late in the first quarter, when Regina closed strong to reclaim the lead. After one, the Cougars were ahead by two.

The second quarter stayed tight. Lilia Skumatova knocked down two three-pointers in quick succession to pull Calgary back within reach. Regina answered with a late five-point run that opened the gap again. In the final 30 seconds, Geraldo drove to the basket for a layup, evening the score at 39–39 heading into halftime.

Regina carried that momentum into the third quarter. The Cougars doubled Calgary's point total in the frame, turning a tied game into a 10-point advantage. Vanderhooft and Wells led the push, scoring four points each as Regina took control.

Calgary showed fight in the final quarter. Raya Hafez and Pollyanna Storie hit back-to-back three-pointers to spark a late push. Oss added the Dinos' final points as Calgary worked to close the gap. The rally fell short, however, as Regina maintained its lead through the final minutes to secure the win.

Calgary hits the road next week to face the MacEwan Griffins in Edmonton. Regina continues its road swing with a matchup against the Winnipeg Wesmen.
