LETHBRIDGE, Alta. –
Isabella DiPalma scored her second goal of the season in what proved to be the difference in a 1-0 win for the Calgary Dinos women's soccer team Saturday in a one-sided affair against the Lethbridge Pronghorns from the UofL Community Stadium.
With the win, the No. 4 Dinos improve to 5-0 on the young season, while the Pronghorns drop to 0-4-1.
Despite dominating possession in the opening frame and out-shooting the 'Horns 14-0 in the first half – including a 7-0 advantage in shots on goal – the game remained scoreless after the first 45 minutes of action.
Calgary finally broke through right at the 60-minute mark.
Jaden Tomaszewski brought the ball down the left wing before playing a centering pass to DiPalma. The fifth-year midfielder's first touch perfectly split a pair of defenders before blasting a shot from 24 yards out that beat the keeper far post to finally put the Dinos on the board.
The game opened up a bit after the goal, but Calgary continued to dominate possession, creating a host of dangerous chances over the final half hour, but never were able to find the back of the net again.
In all, the Dinos finished this one with a 27-1 edge in shots.
Lauren Houghton made one save in her first appearance in net for Calgary this season to pick up the win.
Kate Prince was impressive in net for the 'Horns, making 13 saves and thwarting a number of other Calgary chances.
The two teams are right back at it Sunday with a 2:15 p.m. contest again in Lethbridge.
