LETHBRIDGE, Alta. – Seven different players found the back of the net for the Calgary Dinos women's soccer team in an 8-0 rout of Lethbridge Sunday afternoon from the UofL Community Stadium.
One day after settling for a 1-0 win over the Pronghorns despite a 27-1 edge in shots, the Dinos lit up the scoreboard early and often in Sunday's rematch.
Calgary remains perfect this season at 6-0 and has now outscored its opponents 22-1.
Lethbridge falls to 0-6-1 with the loss.
Sarah Donick got the scoring started, heading home a backdoor cross from
Brooke Batty to get the Dinos on the board first in the 22nd minute.
Just a few minutes later,
Isabella DiPalma got taken down in the box to draw a penalty kick for Calgary.
Aislin Phillips perfectly placed the PK for her first of the year to make it 2-0.
Shortly before halftime, it was
Jayden Berg heading in a long pass from
Julia Kittelson to give Calgary a three-goal lead at the break.
The floodgates opened in the second, with
Brooklyn Colvin finishing off a pair of corner kicks from
Kaleigh Major for her second and third goals of the year.
Layla Tarraf,
Grace Moore and DiPalma all also got in the scoring column in the lopsided road win.
Sofia DiGiacomo and Moore also tallied assists on the day in the high-scoring affair.
Calgary finished the day with a 26-4 edge in shots, a 17-1 advantage in shots on goal and a 9-3 lead in corner kicks.
Lauren Houghton won her second straight game in net for Calgary, making one save. With the back-to-back shutouts, Houghton now owns the Canada West record for most shutouts in conference history with 35.
The Dinos continue their four-game road swing next weekend with a pair of contests in Edmonton, starting Saturday against Alberta.
