Batty brace leads Dinos past Huskies

SASKATOON – Brooke Batty scored twice in the second half as the University of Calgary Dinos women's soccer team blanked the Saskatchewan Huskies 2-0 on Sunday at Griffiths Stadium.

Batty's brace capped a remarkable weekend in which she tallied six goals and one assist through Calgary's first two matches. The Dinos improve to 2-0-0, while the Huskies drop to 0-2-0 to start the season.

After a cautious first half with few chances, Calgary broke through in the 60th minute. Batty made her way towards the goal, switched to her left foot before firing a shot past the outstretched arms of Huskies' goalkeeper Kalin Roberts and just inside the left post for the lead.

Just over 10 minutes later, the Dinos doubled down after nearly an hour of scoreless action. After Roberts saved an initial shot, she was unable to corral the rebound, which found the foot of Batty, who recorded her second of the game.

Action was limited for the remainder of the game as the Dinos played strong defence on their way to the shutout win. Anna Demarbre earned both Calgary wins on the weekend without conceding a goal.

The Dinos will play their first home games next weekend at McMahon Stadium when they host the MacEwan Griffins and Alberta Pandas, Sept. 6-7. Tickets are available at GoDinos.com/Tickets.

Saskatchewan remains at home next weekend for a pair of games versus the Lethbridge Pronghorns, Sept. 6-7.
