'Horns snap Dinos win streak in low-scoring affair

CALGARY – One night after the Dinos used a late push for a 98-86 win over Lethbridge, the Pronghorns flipped the script and grinded out a 69-66 win over Calgary in front of a lively crowd Saturday evening inside the Jack Simpson Gym.

The loss spoils "Seniors' Night" for the Dinos as part of the final regular season home game of the year, moving them into a three-way tie atop the Canada West Prairie Division standings at 14-4. Meanwhile, Lethbridge moves to 11-7 with the win and sits alone in fourth place in the divisional standings – one game ahead of Mount Royal heading into the final weekend.

After trailing the entire first half, Calgary took its first lead early in the third, only to see the 'Horns answer back and go ahead 45-43 with 6:08 to play in the third. The Dinos would tie the game a number of times after – including at 64-64 with 3:30 left in the fourth – but Lethbridge was able to frustrate the normally sharp-shooting Dinos just enough for the win.

Jack-Henry Fox-Grey led the way for Lethbridge with 19 points and seven rebounds. Angelo Mbituyimana added 11 points, while Shae Gibb chipped in with six points and a big seven boards from the point guard position.

Despite relentless pressure all night long, Nate Petrone finished with a game-high 20 points, with 10 coming in the final frame as he tried to will the Dinos to the win down the stretch. Noah Wharton poured in 18 points despite playing in foul trouble most of the way.

Fellow seniors Javier Ramos-Yzquierdo and Dylan Lutes also saw the iron unkind in this one but were both huge in the rebounding battle, with Ramos-Yzquierdo hauling in a game-high 11 boards and Lutes adding nine.

Calgary now closes out the regular season at Regina next weekend, with both Friday and Saturday's games scheduled for 5 p.m. MT from the UofR campus.
