TORONTO – Following another incredible season on the field,
Owen Antoniuk of the University of Calgary Dinos men's soccer team has been named a First Team All-Canadian, U SPORTS announced Wednesday night at the annual banquet leading into the national tournament.
This marks the second time Antoniuk has been named an All-Canadian, after earning second team honours a season ago.
Antoniuk becomes just the third First Team All-Canadian in program history as one of the top-11 players in all of U SPORTS, joining Derek Ballendine (1987) and Marvin Chehowy (1980).
It was another special season in the Scarlet & Gold for Antoniuk. The fourth-year forward scored a career-high 10 goals in 15 Canada West games this season – ranking him fourth in all of U SPORTS. His 14 points also were a career high and ranked him second in the conference and third in the nation.
This comes one year after racking up 13 points (eight goals, five assists) for his first All-Canadian honours.
Antoniuk helped lead the Dinos to a red-hot start, going 7-2 through the first nine games as Calgary was ranked in the U SPORTS top-10 for the first time in a decade, before injuries sidetracked things down the stretch.
This marks the sixth All-Canadian honour for the Dinos program in the last six seasons and the 19th all time.
