Dinos coast to sweep of 'Horns

LETHBRIDGE, Alta.Pollyanna Storie led all players with 20 points to go with eight rebounds in just 26 minutes of action to lead the University of Calgary Dinos to a dominant 83-52 win over Lethbridge Saturday evening from the Co-op Centre for Sport & Wellness.

One night after the Dinos needed to grind out an 80-70 win in the season opener, no such drama would take place in this one as Calgary outscored the Pronghorns 30-11 in the second quarter to establish a 24-point halftime lead and they never looked back.

The win moves Calgary to 2-0 on the year, while Lethbridge drops to 0-2.

Storie had the hot hand, going 4-8 from three-point range in this one.

Three other Dinos finished with double-digit scoring in this one. Amélie Collin finished with 10 points, four rebounds and two steals. Meanwhile, newcomers Raya Hafez and Mackenzie Henderson each notched 10 points in just their second conference games in the Scarlet & Gold.

Kourtney Oss just missed a double-double, finishing with eight points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

Courtney McKee led the way for Lethbridge with 13 points on 11-12 shooting from the free-throw line.

After a back-and-forth start to this one, Calgary held an 18-13 lead after one after back-to-back triples from Henderson.

The 'Horns scored the first two points of the second before the Dinos went on a 24-3 run. Eight different Calgary players scored in the frame as they doubled up Lethbridge at the break, 48-24.

It was smooth sailing from there. A fastbreak layup by Lilia Skumatova ballooned the lead to 60-30 with six minutes to play in the third, and a three pointer from Storie in the fourth gave Calgary its largest lead of the night at 34.

Offensively, Calgary finished the night shooting 41 percent both overall (30-74) and behind the arc (11-27). The Dinos defence also shined in this one, holding Lethbridge to just 30 percent shooting from the floor and just 18 percent (3-17) from three.

The Dinos are off next weekend, returning to the court Nov. 7 with a weekend trip to Brandon, Man. to take on the Bobcats.
