Floodgates open as Dinos pick up 7-1 road win

LANGLEY, B.C. – Six different Dinos found the back of the net in an offensive explosion as Calgary scored early and often in a 7-1 win over Trinity Western Saturday afternoon to finish off the weekend sweep from the Langley Events Centre.

The balanced attack helped Calgary improve to 12-8-2 on the year, while TWU drops to 3-18-3.

Calgary jumped out to a very early lead thanks to goals on its first two shots of the game. The first came as Dallon Melin redirected a wrister from the top of the zone by Dylan Anderson to make it 1-0 just 1:20 into the game. Brendan Lee made it 2-0 just 20 seconds later, firing a shot over the shoulder of TWU keeper from a tough angle for the Dinos second goal less than two minutes into the game.

Late in the first, Logen Hammett jumped on a loose puck and slotted it home for his first U SPORTS goal, giving Calgary a 3-0 lead at intermission.

Less than two minutes into the second it was another rookie getting in on the fun. Logan Hauer netted his fourth of the year to make it 4-0 just 1:50 into the second and the rout was on.

TWU got one back as Mykhailo Simchuk put the Spartans on the board three minutes into the second.

But the Dinos reestablished their four-goal lead later in the frame on another power play goal. Connor Gutenberg rifled one from the slot with Max Patterson setting a perfect screen in front of net, just getting a stick on Gutenberg's shot to make it 5-1.

Lee added another on a redirected shot from Melin late in the second for his fourth goal in the second semester, before Gutenberg ping-ponged one in in the third to close out the scoring in this one.

The seven goals in one game ties a season high for the Dinos, equaling the outputs in the 7-1 win over Manitoba (Nov. 23) and 7-0 win over at home over TWU (Nov. 29).

Next up for the Dinos is one of the most anticipated games in all of U SPORTS in the Crowchild Classic against city rival Mount Royal inside the Scotiabank Saddledome on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
