Five Dinos score in rout of Winnipeg

WINNIPEG – Five different players scored for the Calgary Dinos women's soccer team in a convincing 5-0 win over Winnipeg Sunday afternoon from the Ralph Cantafio Soccer Complex.

Ella Djuranic and Kaleigh Major scored less than two minutes apart in the early going and it was never a doubt from there.

Calgary improves to 7-1-0 on the year and remains in the lead of the Canada West Prairie Division standings with six games still to play. Meanwhile, Winnipeg falls to 1-7-0.

Djuranic got the party started in the 22nd minute. Jaden Tomaszewski sent a low free kick into the box that flummoxed the defence. Djuranic was able to get to it first and put it away for her fourth of the year.

Just over 90 seconds later, it was Djuranic who started the play this time with a pass to Major just outside the top of the box. The second-year midfielder fired one from distance and beat the keeper far post to make it 2-0 just 23:12 into the game.

Grace Moore netted her league-leading eighth of the season in the 35th minute and Isabella DiPalma headed one in in the 41st to give the Dinos a 4-0 advantage at the break.

Calgary added one more in windy second half as Paige Cates finished off a nice ball into the box from Aislin Phillips to close the scoring for the day.

Katie French picked up the win in net for the Dinos, stopping the only shot she faced all afternoon.

Calgary's four-game road swing continues next weekend with a pair of games in Saskatchewan, starting Saturday in Saskatoon against the Huskies before traveling to Regina on Sunday to battle the Cougars.
