WINNIPEG – First-year forward
Rowyn James's goal in the 74th minute stood as the game-winner for the University of Calgary Dinos women's soccer team in a 3-2 decision over the Manitoba Bisons.
Saturday's tally was James' fourth of the season and allowed Calgary to maintain their lead atop Canada West's Prairie Division with a 6-1-0 record.
Despite a two-goal outing from Jessica Tsai, the Bisons fall to 1-6-0 on the season.
Grace Moore opened the scoring in the 13th minute. Approaching the goal from the left side of the field, the veteran Calgary forward made a quick move to elude a defender before lofting the ball over the Manitoba goalkeeper.
A lethal shot by Tsai levelled the game in the 27th minute, but it wouldn't remain tied for long. Minutes later, off a long-distance set piece,
Rachel Barlow fired a ball toward the goal, and
Jayden Berg headed it in to restore the Dinos' lead.
A pair of defensive breakdowns had massive impacts in the second half.
In the 65th minute, Tsai scored her second of the day off a one-on-one opportunity created by a turnover.
The game-winning goal would also come off a miscue, as the Manitoba goalkeeper could not handle the ball and had it stripped by James and deposited into the empty net.
Anna Demarbre of the Dinos and Manitoba's Daria Reimer each made four saves on the day.
The Dinos wrap up their Winnipeg road trip on Sunday with a 12 p.m. MT start versus the Winnipeg Wesmen.
Manitoba will host the Lethbridge Pronghorns on Sunday.
