Prince George, B.C. – Five different players scored for the Calgary Dinos men's soccer team in a convincing 6-2 road win over UNBC Friday night from Masich Place Stadium.
The Dinos found the back of the net just 3:44 into the game and never looked back, holding a 3-0 edge at halftime and a 5-0 lead late in the second half before the running out the clock.
The win is the second in a row for Calgary, who now sit at 3-1-2 on the year. UNBC falls to 0-5-2.
The party started early for the Dinos.
James Greco-Taylor took an early corner kick and sent it dangerously into the box.
Joey Plenzik attacked the ball in the air and hammered it into the back of the net to make it 1-0 less than four minutes into the game.
Owen Antoniuk capitalized on a defensive miscue in the 25th minute, before
Jacob Hunter finished a beautiful build up by Calgary in the 41st to establish a commanding lead by halftime.
After the break,
Soliman Aria netted his first of the year in the 58th and Antoniuk converted a PK in the 62nd for his third goal in as many games.
The Timberwolves were able to get on the board with a nice goal in the 71st, only to see
Milan Ponjevich finish off a loose ball in the box off a set piece to reestablish the five-goal lead in the 82nd.
UNBC added one more in the game's dying moments to set the final tally to 6-2.
The six goals marks the most in a conference game for Calgary since a 7-1 thrashing of MacEwan back on Oct. 1, 2016.
"Scoring six goals on the road in BC, I don't know the last time we've done that. It's a big day," Antoniuk said postgame. "We've been in close games in Alberta...one-nil, two-nil. Guys are hungry for goals...but guys are disappointed in that locker room (after conceding two goals), which is a good sign that we're not satisfied with conceding. It's a good mindset the group has. At the end of the day, it's a 6-2 win on the road so we're thrilled."
Hany Shafie finished the night with three saves in net for the Dinos, while Yanni Ntapas registered six saves in split time for the T-Wolves.
Calgary wraps up its four-game roadtrip on Sunday with a 1 p.m. MT contest at UBCO in Kelowna. UNBC also has a day to recoup before hosting MacEwan on Sunday afternoon.
