Dinos begin final games of season vs PBA Dawgs

Wielders picks up fourth win of the season.

Dinos baseball closes out their final week of the regular season as they prepare for the 2024 CCBC championships where they will enter the championship as the defending champions. Rounding out the regular season the Dinos will face a familiar provincial rival, in the form of the PBA Dawgs, for their remaining six games. The six remaining games include the final two games on Saturday and the rescheduled four games that were postponed in April the Dinos and Dawgs will see a lot of each other in a traditional rivalry that is always competitive and dramatic. True to their history the Dinos and Dawgs split the games on Saturday with the Dinos winning game #1 by a score of 5 - 4 and PBA taking the second game by a score of 6 - 0, in a much closer game than the final score would indicate.
With the Dinos wearing pink tape and accessories to recognize Mother's Day weekend, Dinos starting pitcher Jaydon Wielders picked up the win in the first game Saturday as he earned his fourth win of the season as he becomes the season leader of the Dinos. Relief pitcher Alex Lanigan picked up his first save of the year. Dinos had their chances early as they leave three on base in the first inning and two in the third inning. Wielders pitches shutout ball through the first four innings. Dinos break through in the fourth as they explode for four runs. Keelor Loveridge, fresh off his first homerun the day before, leads off with a triple. Ben Hul and Brendan Tong also join in the hit parade as the Dinos hit three triples in the inning. Dawgs comeback with two of their own runs in the fifth inning with the Dinos scoring one in the fifth to make the game 5 - 2. Dawgs score single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to make things close, but Lanigan pitches a scoreless final two and a third innings to secure the Dinos victory.
Dinos Highlights Game #1

Brendan Tong             2 for 4    1 run   1 RBI    .351 BA

Game #2 saw a pitching duel as Dinos Ethan Webster and Dawgs Alex Fijal both go scoreless through six innings. Dawgs get on the scoreboard in the seventh as a two out Dinos error extends the inning and PBA cashes in on the opportunity as a double scores three unearned runs. Dinos are unable to mount any type of comeback as they manage eight hits during the game and the Dawgs score three more in the ninth to earn the split on the day. Tough result for Webster.
Dinos Highlights Game #2
Ethan Webster        7 innings    6 hits    0 earned runs    2,79 ERA
Keelor Loveridge    1 inning       0 hits    0 runs                0.00 ERA

Dinos and Dawgs continue with a double header in Calgary on Monday followed by a double header in Lethbridge on Tuesday. Monday is Dinos senior day.
