TORONTO –
Gabriella Durante of the University of Calgary Dinos has been named the U SPORTS Women's Hockey Player of the Week, the national sport office announced Wednesday afternoon.
This marks the second time this season Durante has been honoured as the top women's hockey player in the nation.
The fourth-year goaltender was huge for the Dinos in their Canada West quarterfinal series win over Saskatchewan this past weekend. After falling 2-1 in Game 1, Durante and the Calgary defence slammed the door, pitching a pair of 2-0 shutouts to advance to the conference semifinals.
In all, Durante racked up 81 saves in the series win, including 59 over the two shutout wins. In fact, the Calgary product was unbeatable for the final 152 minutes of the series.
The Dinos now get set to head to UBC to take on the top-seeded Thunderbirds in another best-of-three series, starting Friday.
