Crowchild Classic playoff series coming to Father David Bauer Arena

CALGARY – The No. 2 seed University of Calgary Dinos men's hockey team is set to host a Canada West semifinal showdown this coming week, welcoming the crosstown rival Mount Royal Cougars for a best-of-three series, starting Thursday from Father David Bauer Arena.

Both teams finished the regular season ranked in the U SPORTS Top 10 and the Dinos earned the No. 2 seed in this year's playoffs after posting a 21-5-2 overall record. MRU comes into this one as the No. 3 seed after going 21-6-1 in conference play this season, advancing past the sixth-seeded MacEwan Griffins, 2-0, in the quarter-finals.

This marks the first time the two teams, which are separated by just nine kilometres, have met in the post-season since a semifinal showdown back in the 2014-15 season. That one was also held at Father David Bauer Arena and featured an OT thriller for the Dinos in Game 1 before coasting to a 6-3 win in Game 3 to advance to both the conference final and the University Cup.

Calgary is looking for its first back-to-back Canada West titles since doing so back in 1995 and '96. A year ago, the Dinos won both the regular season and conference tournament crowns, grabbing national headlines along the way by winning their final 23 games of the regular season.

All games in the best-of-three series – Thursday, Friday, and Saturday (if necessary) – will take place at Father David Bauer Arena with 7 p.m. puck drops. Tickets for Games 1 and 2 are on sale now and can be found at GoDinos.com/Tickets or by clicking here.
