CALGARY –
Alexanne Lepage of the Calgary Dinos swim team recently travelled to Doha for the short course World Aquatics Championship (25m), where she competed against and alongside many of the world's best swimmers.
Lepage kicked off the first day of racing with the 4x100 freestyle relay alongside Canadian National Team teammates Penny Oleksiak, Sydney Pickrem and Ingrid Wilm. Oleksiak broke the water and got a great lead for her teammates to follow. Lepage – who was the anchor on this relay – secured the fourth-best finish with an overall time of 3:34.50 for her team to advance to the finals. Later that day, this relay was swum by Marie-Sophie Harvey, Summer McIntosh, Wilm and Oleksiak, who were able to rack in the bronze medals by dropping their time to 3:28.44.
On day 3, Lepage swam the 200-meter breaststroke, achieving a life time best. She started off the first 50 meters very strong, setting a great pace that she successfully held to drop her time to a 2:21.79, tying with Yuliya Efimova for 13th place.
Lepage also swam the 50-meter breaststroke. She proved how diverse her breaststroke talent is by bringing out her sprinting powers. Lepage swam to a 30.25, which was just over her lifetime best that she achieved last month at the Canada West Swimming Championships.
The Vernon, B.C. native also represented Canada on the 4x100 medley relay in the second leg of the race swimming breaststroke. On her relay was Kylie Masse (backstroke), Lepage (breaststroke), Wilm (butterfly) and Oleksiak (freestyle).
Lepage will now rejoin her fellow Dinos for the second semester of university racing, which gets back underway Jan. 11 with a dual meet at Toronto.
