McLeod nets another in close road loss for Calgary

WINNIPEG – Aimee Patrick notched two points and Paige Fischer made 17 saves to propel the Manitoba Bisons to a 3-1 victory over the Calgary Dinos Friday night from Wayne Fleming Arena.

The win moves the Bisons to 7-3-1 on the year and keeps them in third place with 15 points in the East Division standings, while the loss drops the Dinos to 6-5-2 and keeps them tied for third in the West Division with 14 points.

Manitoba opened the scoring just over 10 minutes in as Rachel Gottfried found time and space on her side to give the home squad a 1-0 lead.

Brenna Nicol doubled up the Bisons' lead three minutes later, as patience finally paid off for her. On her fourth drive to the net, Nicol found the Dinos goaltender out of position, which gave her a window of opportunity which she took to make the game 2-0.

Seconds after the Bisons had killed off a penalty, the Dinos found three attackers in front of the net. Emma Tait's original shot was saved, but Josie McLeod crashed the net and was there for the wide open put back to open the scoring for the Dinos with just under three minutes remaining in the first.

Things stayed that way until midway through the second. After chaos ensued in front of the Dinos' net, Aimee Patrick ripped around the net to score the wraparound goal.

Patrick's second point of the game was the clear momentum shift in the game as Manitoba dominated puck possession from Patrick's goal onwards.

The Bisons and Dinos are back in action for a rematch at Wayne Fleming Arena with puck drop set for 2 p.m. MT.
