CALGARY –
Grace Moore got the scoring started in the 26th minute and opened the floodgates for the Calgary Dinos women's soccer team in a 7-0 win over Lethbridge Friday evening from Dinosaur Field.
Moore scored three of the first four goals of the night, capping her hat trick performance by the 50th minute. It now gives the fourth-year forward a career-high 11 goals on the season – by far the most in Canada West so far this year.
With the win, the Dinos move to 9-1-1 on the year with three games to play, while the Pronghorns fall to 2-9.
Lethbridge opened the game with a strong defensive plan, smothering some of the Dinos lethal scorers to keep the chances limited in the early going and scoreless through the first 25 minutes.
Moore changed all that in the 26th creating something out of nothing.
Jayden Berg fired a shot from distance that was blocked but bounced right to Moore. The Calgary native hammered the ball on the volley to finally beat the Horns' keeper and break the seal.
Just over 10 minutes later,
Isabella Burtini made a great through run and
Jayden Berg found her with a perfect pass, where Burtini took one touch to beat the keeper and double up the lead.
Shortly later, Moore tapped in a close-range loose ball in the box to make things 3-0 at the break.
Moore completed her hat trick right out the gates after halftime. Following a great pass from Makenna Walker, Moore took a touch on the far side of the box and hammered the ball to the opposite top corner of the net to stretch things to 4-0.
It marks the first hat trick of the season for the Dinos and is the first for the program since
Rachel Barlow scored all three goals in a draw with Trinity Western Sept. 16, 2023.
Berg added a pair of goals and
Ella Djuranic scored her sixth of the season in the 65th to close out the scoring in this one.
Lethbridge goalkeepers Heidi Andres and Oceane McBurney split time in net in this one, with Andres racking up eight saves, while McBurney was credited with four.
The two teams are right back at it on Saturday in the rare back-to-back matchups, with kickoff set for 6:30 p.m. from the University of Lethbridge Community Stadium.
