CALGARY – Six different Dinos scored in double figures as the No. 4 University of Calgary Dinos powered to an 82-55 win over the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns on Friday night, keeping a 27-point lead to the end of the game at Jack Simpson Gym.
The win is the seventh in a row for the Dinos and brings them to 14-3 for the season, keeping them in the top three in the Canada West standings. The loss is just the fifth of the season for Lethbridge, who fall to 12-5 on the year.
It was an incredibly balanced night for the Dinos, with reigning Canada West Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Myriam Kone leading the team in scoring with 12 points on the night.
Lilia Skumatova,
Milica Gajic and
Kourtney Oss all tallied 11 points in this one, while
Pollyanna Storie and
Louise Rouse each chipped in with 10.
Courtney McKee had a game-high 13 points to lead the way for the 'Horns.
After a quick two points by Kone to start the game, Skumatova drilled a three pointer on the Dinos next possession to instantly make it 5-0 in what proved to be a suffocating first quarter by the home team. Calgary hit four triples in the first 10 minutes and led 30-9 heading into the second.
The Dinos were able to stretch that lead to 45-21 at the half and 66-37 after three.
Lethbridge battled the entire way, claiming an 18-16 edge in the fourth to close this one out at 82-55.
Piper Dobbelsteyn and Tobore Okome each finished with nine points for the 'Horns, while Kya Collier and Kamryn Deklerk each added eight.
Remarkably, Calgary's bench scored 42 of the team's 82 points on the night.
The Dinos and Pronghorns will faceoff for the rematch at Jack Simpson Gym Saturday at 6 p.m.
