No. 10 Dinos win 11th in a row

CALGARY – The win streak continued for the No. 10 University of Calgary Dinos men's basketball team Friday night, overcoming a slow start before cruising to their 11th win in a row with a 99-77 final tally from the Jack Simpson Gym.

Calgary now improves to 13-4 on the season, while Lethbridge drops to 4-13.

Six different Dinos scored in double figures on the night, led by third-year forward Javier Ramos-Yzquierdo with 19 points on 6-8 shooting from the field and a perfect 7-7 night from the free-throw line.

Martynas Sabaliauskas poured in 16 points off the bench, while Nate Petrone and Dylan Lutes each finished with 15. Noah Wharton netted another 14 points, while Gurshan Sran just missed a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds.

Spencer Roberts had a strong night on the blocks for Calgary, scoring five points and hauling in a game-high 10 boards.

Jack-Henry Fox-Grey led the way for Lethbridge with 18 points on 9-13 shooting. Kymani Pollard added 15 and Shae Gibb and Kevin Ibula each finished with 10 points, with Gibb grabbing a team-high eight rebounds for the 'Horns.

It was nearly a perfect start to the night for Lethbridge, hitting four of their first five threes to start the game to take it to the home team. The 'Horns led by as many as six in the early going and held a 26-21 edge after one.

Alan Spoonhunter started the second with a triple that quickly kickstarted the Dinos attack. A jumper by Ramos-Yzquierdo capped a 12-0 run, giving Calgary a 33-26 lead and they wouldn't trail again the rest of the way.

After trailing 53-37 at the half and by as many as 20 early in the third, the whittled things back down to single digits after a three by Ibula and a jumper by Gibb to cut things to 64-55 with 3:28 to play in the third. But the Dinos responded with a three by Sabaliauskas on the next possession and led by double-digits the rest of the way before winning by 22.

Calgary shot over 50 percent (33-64) for the seventh time this season and turned 17 Lethbridge turnovers into 27 points as the high-octane offence continued to perform once again in the lopsided win.

The Dinos will close out their six-game homestand Saturday, once again hosting the Pronghorns with an 8 p.m. tip time.
