Lethbridge, Alta. – Four consecutive tries powered the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns to a 43-12 victory over the University of Calgary Dinos women's rugby team on Saturday night.

The Pronghorns scored the first try of the game and didn't let up in their home leg of back-to-back matches between the Southern Alberta rivals. Lethbridge is now 2-0 to begin the season, while Calgary slips to 0-3.

The first score of the game came just five minutes in as Tess Domes powered through a line of Dinos and into the end zone. Trailing 7-0, Calgary quickly responded with their own score. Bomi Lawal found a line down the right side of the field bolted past defenders for a try.

Lethbridge took control of the game from there though.

The home team took a two-score lead on quick tries by Molly Allen and Kenya Richards in the 12th and 19th minutes. Jada Holtkamp added another in the 32nd minute and another successful convert put the Pronghorns in front 26-5 at halftime.

After Rebecca Powell extended the Lethbridge lead to 26 in the 51st minute, the Dinos got one back. Daisy Shackley took the ball inside the 20-yard line and used her strength to muscle through the Pronghorns and in for the try. Danyka LaBelle was successful on the convert to make the score 31-12 with just over 30 minutes to go.

That was as close as Calgary would get. Powell added her second try of the game in the 68th minute and Teagan Viney rounded out the scoring by finding the end zone with eight minutes remaining.

The Dinos will make their west coast trip next weekend as they face the Victoria Vikes and UBC Thunderbirds. Calgary will visit Vancouver Island on Thursday, Sept. 21 before closing out the weekend on the lower mainland on Sunday, Sept. 24.
