CALGARY – Former Calgary Dinos men's soccer player
Eryk Kobza has signed a multi-year professional contract with Cavalry FC, the club announced Friday.
Kobza will now play for Calgary's local professional team until 2025, with a club option for 2026.
Having been selected in this year's U SPORTS draft from the University of Calgary, Kobza was initially signed to a U SPORTS contract through to August. Across 14 appearances so far for the club, Kobza has adapted very quickly to the professional game, providing control and depth in both midfield and defence. Earlier this month, Kobza also recorded his first professional goal in a 2-1 away win against Pacific FC.
"Eryk has been a great addition to the squad this season," Cavalry FC head coach & general manager Tommy Wheeldon Jr. said. "He has come in and earned his playing time by learning our system quickly and making an immediate impact through his play on the pitch. His intelligence, versatility, athleticism, and composure provide us great assets to work with and develop him further.
"On top of that, he is an exceptional character that is good around the locker room and in the community. He is another great example of the value we place on the U SPORTS draft, and he is a credit to his University."
Kobza finished his Calgary Dinos career this past fall, helping the Scarlet & Gold to another deep playoff run that saw them advance all the way to the Canada West Championship. He started all 16 games on the year and finished the season tied for the team high with three assists to go with his three goals. In all, the North Vancouver, B.C. product played in 41 games as a Dino, making 40 starts, tallying seven goals and seven assists.
Former Cavalry FC players selected from U SPORTS include the likes of Joel Waterman and Victor Loturi, both of whom have received call-ups for the Canadian Men's National Team. Cavalry FC continues to create opportunities for young Canadian talents to achieve the highest level through its recruitment and pathway.
