Dinos suffer heartbreaker in Victoria

VICTORIA – A game-winning try in the final match of the day by the UBC Thunderbirds' Soshanah Seumanutafa as time expired gave UBC its second-straight tournament win, Feb. 12 at Wallace Field.

Julia Omokhuale and Delaney Aikens both found the endzone in the second half and Aikens was successful on both convert tries to give Calgary a 14-10 lead, but the Thunderbirds score on the last possession gave them a perfect 5-0 finish to the weekend to capture the tournament crown.
  
Victoria took second place with a 4-1 overall record, falling to UBC and defeating the Alberta Pandas, 45-0, on the second day of action. The Dinos rounded out the top-three, posting a 3-2 record during the tournament and capturing a 10-0 win over the Trinity Western Spartans before the thrilling finale.

The Lethbridge Pronghorns went unbeaten on the second day of action, defeating Alberta, 17-10 and tying Trinity Western, 10-10 for a 1-3-1 record over five matches. The Spartans finished the tounament at 1-3-1 as well, while the Pandas went 0-5 over the two-day tournament.
 
UBC's Savannah Bauder tallied 11 tries and two converts to lead the individual performances, finishing with 59 points overall. Victoria's Kira Peary led the field with her boot, recording a tournament-high nine converts, five of which were scored on day two.
 
The Canada West Rugby 7s series will conclude with its final stop in Vancouver, B.C. at the University of British Columbia, March 4-5.

The University of Alberta (January 20/21) Victoria (February 11/12) and British Columbia (March 4/5) will host the three Rugby 7s tournaments in 2023.
