CALGARY – Kaitlyn Gilroy found the back of the net with nine seconds left in overtime to give the Regina Cougars a thrilling 7-6 comeback win over the University of Calgary Dinos women's hockey team Friday night from Father David Bauer Arena.

Regina overcame deficits of 3-1 and 5-3 en route to their second win of the season, moving to 2-6-1, while the Dinos drop to 2-6-1 with the OT loss.

The Dinos got the scoring started with first-period goals from Sydney Mercier, Jolie Nafziger and Brooklin Fry, but Gilroy got the Cougars on the board to keep things within reach at 3-1 after one.

Paige Hubbard scored just 33 seconds into the second period to quickly make this a one-goal game.

Things really erupted a few minutes later with three goals in a 2:14 span. Solana Cooper scored her second of the season at the 6:12 mark of the second to put the Dinos ahead, 4-2. Regina answered right back just 22 seconds later as Hannah Pennell made it 4-3. Nafziger then potted her second of the game at the 8:26 mark of the second to extend things to 5-3.

But, Makena Kushniruk scored just before intermission to draw the Cougars back within one before Jadyn Kushniruk netted her first of the game just one minute into the third to tie things up at 5-5.

Jadyn found her second goal with just 5:57 left in regulation to give Regina its first lead of the game.

But the Dinos wouldn't go away quietly as rookie Kyla Mitenko scored with just 39 seconds left in the third to tie things up at 6-6 and send things to overtime.

It's a quick turnaround as the two teams are right back at it Saturday at 2 p.m. again from Father David Bauer Arena.
