SASKATOON – In a showdown between two of the top four teams in the country, the second-ranked Saskatchewan Huskies took down the No. 4 University of Calgary Dinos women's basketball team, 70-56, Friday evening at the Physical Activity Complex.
The Huskies improve to 7-0 on the season, while the loss is the first of the year for the Dinos, who fall to 6-1.
Myriam Kone led all players with a career-high 18 points to go with five rebounds and a pair of steals for the Dinos in the loss.
Kourtney Oss also scored in double figures with a career-best 11 points.
Four Huskies scored in double digits on the night, led by Carly Ahlstrom with 16 and a game-high 11 rebounds.
It was an uncharacteristically cold shooting night for Calgary, who finished the night connecting on just 30.6 percent (19-62) shots overall, including a 5-24 (20.8%) performance from behind the arc.
Saskatchewan started the game strong, going 8-16 from the field in the first quarter to build a 24-15 lead after 10 minutes.
The Huskies continued to build on their lead in the second quarter, reaching halftime with a 41-28 lead over the Dinos.
Calgary used a push in the second half, but couldn't get close enough down the stretch in suffering their first loss of the year.
Saskatchewan used a edge down low Friday, winning the rebound battle 51-35, as well as having a 38-28 edge in points in the paint.
The two teams will face each other again on Saturday at 4 p.m. MT.
