BRANDON, Man. – Scoring over 100 points for the second consecutive night, the University of Calgary Dinos women's basketball team cruised to a 106-31 win over the Brandon Bobcats Saturday night from the Healthy Living Centre.
The fourth-ranked Dinos improve to 6-0 on the season, stretching their average margin of victory to over 41 points per game.
Every Dinos player scored in the win, marking the second consecutive night that has happened and the third time this season.
Louise Rouse led the way with 20 points, five rebounds and four assists.
Sydney Milum tallied a new career best with 14 points to go with six boards, while
Pollyanna Storie also scored 14 on the night with four steals in a team-high 24 minutes played.
Myriam Kone notched a double-double with 10 points and a career-high 10 assists. The second-year point guard also added five rebounds and four steals.
Amélie Collin also stuffed the stat sheet, finishing with nine points, eight rebounds, five steals and four assists.
Reetta Tulkki led the way for Brandon with 11 points.
One night after draining five three pointers, Storie started Saturday's contest with a triple on the first possession to set the tone. The early hot shooing proved contagious as Collin and
Kourtney Oss both also connected from deep. Directly following her three, Oss forced a steal off the ensuing inbound and set up an easy bucket for teammate
Louise Rouse. In all, the Dinos shot 62.5 percent (10-16) from the floor in the first for a 26-9 lead after one.
Calgary's shooting came back down to earth a little in the second, but its defence didn't, once again limiting Brandon to just nine points in the quarter. After 20 minutes, the Dinos held a 44-18 lead.
The Dinos then scored the first nine points of the second half and made it a 22-2 run to stretch the score to 66-20 with 3:16 left in the third. After an and-one play from Kone, the Dinos closed out the third with a 76-24 advantage, shooting 67 percent (14-21) overall in the frame.
Calgary once again started the next quarter strong, opening on a 14-0 run before coasting to the win.
The 75-point win equals the largest margin of victory for the Dinos in the
Damian Jennings era, surpassing last night's 64-point victory.
The Dinos finished the night shooting 54.7 percent (41-75) from the floor and 46.2 percent (12-26) from behind the arc.
Calgary also finished the night with sizable advantages in rebounds (49-35), assists (36-9), bench points (50-11), steals (18-4), points off turnovers (44-8), and points in the paint (58-20).
Next week, all eyes will be on the Dinos as they continue their road swing through the Prairies with a trip to Saskatchewan, setting up a showdown between two of the top programs in all of Canada. Friday's tip is scheduled for 5 p.m. MT.
