Dinos cruise to 4-1 win over Lethbridge

CALGARYSofia DiGiacomo had a goal and an assist as the University of Calgary Dinos women's soccer team cruised to a 4-1 win over the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns Saturday afternoon from Dinosaur Field.

Calgary netted three goals in the first half to quickly jump en route to the convincing win, moving them to 7-2-3 on the year, while the Pronghorns fall to 1-11.

The Dinos got the scoring started early with Sofia DiGiacomo finding the back of the net less than two minutes in. Grace Moore possessed the ball near the endline and found DiGiacomo for the easy finish just 1:54 into the game.

Alison Pedersen made it 2-0 in the 27th minute on a beauty of a goal. Layla Tarraf started the attack, bringing the ball up field right through the centre. She played the ball to the far side, where MyKena Walker one-timed it back across the box where Pedersen was ready and waiting, hammering the ball into the upper 90 near post to double the lead.

Calgary just kept sending waves after wave of attack and it paid off once again in the 35th minute. Rachel Barlow took a corner kick and connected with DiGiacomo on the back post. The centre back headed the ball back across the box and Tarraf just got a touch to it for her first of the season.

The Horns got on the board late in the first half after drawing a foul just on the edge of the box. Anneke De Klerk took a touch and Lucy Mundy fired the shot, sending the ball under the wall and just past the outstretched arms of Anna Demarbre to make it 3-1 at intermission.

Calgary added one more early in the second half off a free kick. Brooklyn Colvin sent a ball from midfield into the box where Danica Pullishy got a head on it and beat to the keeper to stretch the lead to 4-1 at the 51:47 mark.

The Dinos finished the game with a 24-7 edge in shots and an 11-3 advantage in shots on goal.

Calgary now turns its attention to the final weekend of the regular season next weekend, hosting MacEwan and Alberta Saturday and Sunday from Dinosaur Field. Both games are scheduled for noon kickoffs. Tickets can be purchased online at GoDinos.com/Tickets.
