EDMONTON - The Alberta Golden Bears kept their of claiming the No. 1 seed in Prairie division alive with a 1-0 victory over Calgary on Sunday.
First-year Bear Frankroy Cain broke a 0-0 deadlock with a tally in the 64th minute, his first goal of the season.
The Bears improve to 7-2-2 this season with the win, with Calgary dropping to 4-6-3. Alberta, who remains in second in the Prairie Division, will need to win their final three matches, coupled with a Mount Royal (10-2-1) loss to the Dinos next week to secure the top seed.
The loss snaps a four game unbeaten streak for Calgary, going 3-0-1 in that span to launch them back into the playoff picture. With two games in hand over MacEwan, the Dinos hold on to their spot in fourth despite the loss.
Chris Ezoua turned aside all four Dinos shots he faced, picking up his sixth clean sheet of 2023. Not tested in the opening half, Ezoua made three saves in the second, highlighted by a diving one-handed stop on
Derek Brust in the 85th.
The Bears controlled a slight majority of the ball share on Sunday, firing 16 shots on the Dinos net. Calgary keeper
Liam Hunter turned aside five of the six shots he faced, with the only blemish being Cain's marker off a rebound midway through the second.
Alberta will visit Lethbridge and Saskatchewan next weekend, while the Dinos will visit MRU on Saturday afternoon in their season finale.
