CALGARY – The University of Calgary Dinos women's hockey team (9-11) will be hosting the Regina Cougars (3-17) for a weekend matchup at Father David Bauer Arena.
Friday's game is scheduled for 7 p.m., while Saturday's will start at 3 p.m.
FIVE THINGS TO KNOW
1. HEAD-TO-HEAD – Calgary is sitting in fifth place in the Canada West conference and is on a three-game winning streak, while the Cougars are at the bottom of the standings and on a three-game losing streak. The Dinos had a bye week and will be coming on the ice rested and fresh. However, the last time the teams met, each went home with a win and a loss.
2. VETERANS LEADING BY EXAMPLE – Dinos veteran forward
Elizabeth Lang sits tied for eighth in the conference for points, notching 17 with eight goals and nine assists while her fellow veteran forward teammate Alli Burrow closely trails in 11th with 16 points on 10 goals (third most in the conference) and six assists.
3. GOALIE LOVE – Calgary netminder
Gabriella Durante is still holding on to being ranked no. 1 in the nation in saves, making 484 in 19 games this season. In their last weekend games, she earned back-to-back shutouts with a total of 42 saves.
4. COUGARS TO WATCH – The Cougars have three players who lead their team in points, all notching eight, respectively. Second-year defender Olivia Leggett has eight assists, veteran forward Jenna Merk has three goals and five assists, and third-year defender Hannah Pennell has five goals and three assists.
5. COACH'S PERSPECTIVE – "We are excited to be back in action this weekend. We've had a couple of good weeks of practice that allowed us to focus on specific details of our game, including special teams. We look to build every weekend. It's a fun time of the season and all the teams are working to find their best game. Our success is built upon being a team and competing for one another, and this weekend is another opportunity to develop that." – Dinos head coach
Carla MacLeod.
