KAMLOOPS – A goal in the 60th minute was the difference as the visiting University of Calgary Dinos knocked off the Thompsron Rivers WolfPack men's soccer team by a score of 1-0 on Friday night.
Gianmarco Plenzik scored his first goal of the season with
Kundai Dziwa picking up the assist, as the underdog Dinos were able to topple the Pacific Division leading WolfPack.
Jackson Gardner made a pair of stops in the WolfPack net while
Jake Ruschkowski made three saves – including an unbelievable diving effort – to earn the shutout for Calgary.
The win was a big one for the Dinos who move into third place in the Prairie Division with a record of 3-3-2. TRU meanwhile saw their advantage at the top of the Pacific Division disappear with the result. They are now 5-2-1 and tied with the UBC Thunderbirds for first place.
TRU outshot Calgary 11-5 to on the night but it was the visitors who were more clinical, getting three of their shots on net including the game winner.
In the 60th minute of action Dziwa whipped in a cross that dropped perfectly onto the foot of Plenzik and the second-year engineering major made no mistake in slotting the ball into the back of the net.
The WolfPack pushed for an equalizer but their best chance of the night was shut down by Ruschkowski.
Marco Favaro went on a great individual run and worked around a pair of Dinos defenders before cutting into the box but his strike on net was tipped over the bar by the Dinos goalkeeper.
Calgary will remain on the road tomorrow when they take on the Trinity Western Spartans at 8:15 p.m. in Langley. TRU meanwhile will look to get back to their winning ways when they host the Alberta Golden Bears inside Hillside Stadium at 7:45 p.m.
