Dinos settle for weekend split at home

CALGARY – After beating out the Saskatchewan Huskies Saturday, the Dinos couldn't hold onto their weekend momentum, falling to the Lethbridge Pronghorns, 2-1, Sunday afternoon at Dinosaur Field.

The loss marks the Dinos' first against the Pronghorns since 2017, bringing their season record to 1-2-2.

"We underestimated them a bit," said Dinos head coach Brendan O'Connell, "The bottom line is that we keep missing chances and we're making life hard for ourselves."

Scoring was opened by the Pronghorns' Alasdair Coyle in the seventh minute, assisted by Karim Bey.

Calgary was able to answer back in the 33rd minute thanks to an impressive effort by Kundai Dziwa. Dziwa managed to chip the ball up and over the head of the Lethbridge netminder to get the Dinos on the scoreboard and tie up the game at 1-1.

The Dinos defence was no match for the Pronghorns though, as Damon Field brought the score up to 2-1 for Lethbridge in the 39th minute of play, again with Bey registering the assist.

The Dinos continued to swarm the Pronghorns, out-shooting them 9-1 in the second half, but neither team would add to the scoresheet.

"We've got to move on quickly and get over this bad result," added O'Connell, "We've got a tough weekend coming up against UBC and Fraser Valley, and we are going to attack the game the same as every other."

The Dinos will take on both Fraser Valley and UBC at Dinosaur Field next weekend. They match up against Fraser Valley Saturday, Sep. 17 at 1:00 and UBC on Sunday, Sep. 18 at 2:15.

Meanwhile, the Pronghorns return home to take on Trinity Western and UNBC next weekend, starting Saturday.
