CALGARY – It's postseason time for the University of Calgary Dinos men's basketball team, and this season will continue to be like no other.
After navigating through the unique 2021-22 regular season, the Dinos will now prepare to co-host a single knock-out tournament to decide who advances to the Final Four.
Calgary gets its run in the bracket underway Friday at 8 p.m. when they take on the winner of Trinity Western and MacEwan inside the Jack Simpson Gym.
PLAYING HOSTS
The Dinos will serve as co-hosts to this year's new playoff format, joined by Mount Royal and Lethbridge. A total of 10 games will be played inside the Jack Simpson Gym between the men's and women's tournaments, including both of the first games of the tournament for Calgary.
All games will be streamed live on Canada West TV, presented by Co-op.
REGULAR-SEASON REWIND
The Dinos finished the regular season with a 9-7 record in Canada West play. That was good enough to earn them the No. 6 seed in this year's playoff format.
After starting the season 3-3, Calgary found its groove and rattled off six consecutive wins to start the new year before the injury bug slowed the team down the stretch.
Noah Wharton leads the way for the Dinos with 15.6 points per game, while senior
Mason Foreman has added 14.8, including posting six double-doubles on the season as he leads the team with 8.7 rebounds per game.
FIRST UP
First up for the Dinos in this year's new playoff format will be the winner of the Trinity Western (8-10)/MacEwan (0-16). The Dinos will get to open postseason play on their home court Friday at 8 p.m. Should they win that game, they will advance to take on Regina (12-4) on Saturday at 8 p.m. also inside The Jack.
UP NEXT
After the busy three days of action, the CW playoffs will take a week off before resuming with the semifinals and final, March 18-19.
