CALGARY – The University of Calgary Dinos women's basketball team couldn't overcome a cold shooting performance down the stretch and fell just short to Mount Royal Friday night, 52-46, in a tight game inside Kenyon Court.
With the loss, the Dinos fall to 6-5 in Canada West play on the season, while Mount Royal improves to 4-7.
Mya Proctor finished with a game-high 14 points, her third straight game reaching double figures in the scoring column.
Tanis Metcalfe led the way for MRU with 11 points on the night, including six in the decisive fourth quarter.
After a back-and-forth contest the whole first half, Amelie Collin drilled a three-pointer just before the third-quarter buzzer to knot things up at 39-all with 10 minutes left to play.
Calgary took a 43-42 lead after back-to-back layups from
Reyna Crawford with just under five minutes to play. But the Dinos shot just wouldn't fall after that, while the Cougars sank all six of their free-throw attempts over the final five minutes to close things out.
The Dinos and Cougars will close out the weekend series Saturday at 4 pm from Kenyon Court.
