Cougars attack Dinos at home

CALGARY -The University of Calgary Dinos dropped a 4-0 decision to the Mount Royal University Cougars on Friday night at Father David Bauer Arena.

Taylor Sawka, Mackenzie Butz, Tatum Amy, and Sydney Benko all scored for league-leading Mount Royal University.

With the loss, the Dinos drop to 7-10-0 and are still outside of a playoff position with just three games remaining in the season, while the Cougars improve to 13-2-2 and stay atop the standings in Canada West.

After an even, scoreless battle in the opening period, the Cougars were able to break the tie halfway through the second. MRU drove to the net, Sawka dug the puck out of the scrum and fired it past Gabriella Durante. Butz doubled the Cougars lead two minutes later with a shot from the blue line on the powerplay.

It remained 2-0 until late in the third, when Amy picked up a giveaway right in front of Durante and did not make a mistake, making it 3-0.

Benko capped off the scoring for the night with an empty net goal to finish the night.

"It was a great game, lots of chances on both sides, hard fought," Dinos head coach Carla MacLeod said after the game. "There will be details that we will certainly try to be sharper at. The more important piece is resetting and coming in with the confidence that you have the opportunity to win a hockey game."

Durante made 23 saves on the night, while Zoe De Beauville made 31 saves for the shutout win.

The Dinos will travel across town for the rematch against the Cougars on Saturday at 6 p.m.
