Cougars use second-period strike to beat Dinos

CALGARY – The University of Calgary Dinos women's hockey team fell 7-2 to the Mount Royal Cougars on Saturday night at the Flames Community Arenas.

Aliya Jomha got Mount Royal first goal of the game with five minutes left in the first period. Kaia Borbandy attempted to put a puck on net, but a Dinos defender blocked it. The bouncing puck ended up on the stick of Jomha in the slot, who released a wrister over the glove hand of Gabriella Durante.

The Cougars had a commanding offence in the second period and put up four goals

The Dinos scored two goals in the third. Sage Desjardins from behind the goal line got a lucky bounce off a Cougars defender and into the net. Emily Hill, on a power play walked the blue line and snipped a slap shot into the bottom left corner.

Kollman closed out the scoring for Mount Royal by deeking around a Dinos defender.

The Dinos will make their final push for a playoff spot next weekend when they host the Alberta Pandas, Feb. 18-19.
