Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Tim Prahl; Dinos Communications

Calgary, UNBC battle to stalemate

Prince George, B.C. – UNBC keeper Brooke Molby made six saves and Caley Leask turned away three on the other end as the University of Calgary Dinos women's soccer team battled to a 0-0 draw with the UNBC Timberwolves Saturday afternoon from Masich Place Stadium.

Despite claiming the lion's share of the possession and outshooting UNBC, 13-5, the Dinos were unable to find the back of the net in the defensive contest to move Calgary to 6-4-2 overall – still holding firmly to the No. 3 spot in the Canada West Pacific Division. The Timberwolves improve to 4-5-3 overall and sit tied with Victoria for fifth in the division with one week remaining in the regular season.

The first threatening chance of the game was created by the visitors. In the 18th minute, Emily Yamaguchi-Kuan curled a ball through the box toward the back post where Jayden Berg was waiting. The second-year midfielder one-timed the great ball point blank, but Molby got low and was able to turn the shot away and out to keep the game level.

Sidney Elliot tried to break the deadlock in the second half, going on a run from about 40 yards out before firing off a shot inside the box, but Leask was positioned perfectly to calmly make the two-handed save and end the scoring chance.

Fans knew this game was doomed to be a scoreless draw after the 73rd minute. Calgary earned a free kick from just outside the box right in the middle of the field. Veteran forward Rachel Barlow ripped a shot past the wall and past the outstretched keeper's arms, only to see the ball ping off the crossbar and down but somehow stay out of the back of the net before Molby corralled the ball.

Barlow led all players with a game-high six shots Saturday.

Calgary will close out the 2022 regular season at home, hosting UBC-Okanagan Friday at 4 p.m. before taking on Thompson Rivers Sunday at noon.

UNBC opens its final weekend by hosting TRU Friday before the Heat make their way to Prince George for a Sunday afternoon contest.
