SASKATOON – For the second consecutive night, the University of Calgary Dinos women's hockey team and the Saskatchewan Huskies needed overtime to find a winner.
This time, in double overtime, it was the Dinos who came out with a 1-0 victory on Saturday night at Merlis Belsher Place to earn three out of a possible four points.
The first period was a defensive battle. There were just 15 total shots on goal and the trend followed through the second and third periods, with defence running the game.
After regulation time ended with no score for either side, the game carried into overtime. It was the Dinos' veteran scorer
Elizabeth Lang, with help from
Jada Burke and Alli Burrow, who finally slid one past the Huskies. Lang's finish happened 2:13 minutes into the second overtime period.
Making her fourth start of the season, Dinos puck-stopper
Gabriella Durante turned away 32 shots to earn her second shutout of the season. At the other end of the rink, Colby Wilson made 29 saves for Saskatchewan.
The Dinos are now 2-1-1 on the season and will return to Calgary for a home-and-home set versus the Mount Royal Cougars, Oct. 14-15.
Also at 2-1-1 on the year, the Huskies remain at home next weekend and will welcome the UBC Thunderbirds to town.
