Kobza, Omoreniye named CW All Stars

CALGARYEryk Kobza and William Omoreniye of the University of Calgary Dinos men's soccer team both picked up Canada West postseason honours, the conference office announced Thursday.

Kobza was named a Canada West Second Team All-Star, while Omoreniye earned a spot on the conference's all-rookie team.

For Kobza, this marks the second Canada West honour in his time in the Scarlet & Gold, also being named a conference all-rookie selection back in 2019. The midfielder has been a force for the Dinos all season, tying for the team lead in assists with three and standing second on the team in points (six) and goals (three). Two of those goals came just two weeks ago and just four minutes apart in a thrilling comeback road win over Saskatchewan. Kobza is also tied for the team lead with 13 starts on the year, playing all of his possible 1,170 minutes.

Omoreniye has been huge in his rookie season with the Dinos. The 6-foot-1 defender not only has helped the Calgary defence allow the fifth-fewest goals in the Canada West this season, but he also leads this year's squad with four goals and seven points. His three assists is also tied with Kobza for the team lead. The local product had a big final weekend, netting two and assisting on another in a 5-0 win Saturday to clinch the Dinos playoff berth.

Calgary's postseason gets underway Friday at 8 p.m. MT when they head to Kamloops, BC for a quarterfinal matchup with Thompson Rivers.
