REGINA, Sask. – Arden Kliewer recorded a 38-save shutout on Friday night as the Regina Cougars edged the University of Calgary Dinos women's hockey team by a 2-0 score at The Co-operators Centre.

Jenna Merk and Trinity Grove both scored in the Regina win as they improved to 2-2-1 on the season. The Dinos are now 2-4-0 in 2022-23.

Merk opened the scoring with her third of the season after knocking in a rebound following a Paige Hubbard shot, giving the Cougars the only goal of the first period.

Regina's second goal came after Makena Kushniruk ringed a shot from the slot off the left post. Grove collected the puck and beat Calgary goalie Gabriella Durante for the second-year forward's first goal of the year, putting the Cougars ahead 2-0 seven minutes into the second.

The score stayed 2-0 despite Calgary pulling Durante with nearly six minutes remaining. The Dinos generated several chances to get on the board, but Kliewer was up to the task and notched her first shutout of the campaign.

The Dinos and Cougars return to action on Saturday with a 3 p.m. puck drop at The Co-operators Centre.
