Dinos score big on Seniors' Day

CALGARY – The University of Calgary Dinos women's rugby team barrelled through the first half with six different players scoring tries as they defeated the University of Alberta Pandas 43-12 on Saturday evening.

The Dinos conclude the regular season with a 3-3 record and celebrated their graduating seniors prior to the match at the UCalgary campus. The Pandas finish with a 1-5 record and will prepare to host the Canada West Championship next week.

"It's a matter of putting things together, and building momentum towards playoffs, in that playoff environment anyone can win," said Dinos head coach Simon Chi. "We're confident that we can go there and show the rest of the Canada West some Dinos Rugby."

Delaney Aikens scored an early first try for the Dinos against the Pandas to waterfall into six other tries in the first half. Running up the left side of the field she dived in for a 5-0 lead. Kate Knight followed in her footsteps when she scored only seven minutes later down the right side.

Alison Kernick made the score 17-0, 18 minutes in with a hard drive across the line. Taejah Thompson added her first two points of the game after she completed the conversion kick.

Erin Geddie ended off the first half with the Dinos' sixth try in the 40th minute and Thompson was successful for the third time kicking. Calgary ended off the first half with a 36-point lead.

Senior Julia Omokhuale started off the second half with her first try of the game in the 51st minute. It was the Dinos' seventh and last try of the game.

Emily Mann put the Pandas on the board with her first try during the 74th minute which brought the score to 43-5 Dinos.

Following Mann, Emilee Randolph scored the visitor's second try only four minutes later. Bella Cuciz put up two more points for the Pandas with a successful conversion kick to round out the scoring at 43-12.
