CALGARY – The University of Calgary Dinos men's hockey team will return to the ice this weekend, facing one of the newest additions to the Canada West conference.
Puck drop against the Trinity Western Spartans will be on Friday, Jan. 14 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 15 at 2 p.m. at Father David Bauer Arena.
ALL-STAR WEEKEND
It was a busy winter break for a trio of Dinos, as they were selected to the 2021 U SPORTS Men's Hockey All-Star roster to compete against the Hockey Canada World Junior prospects.
Kaden Elder,
Jake Gricius, and Calgary captain
Ryan Gagnon – who was scheduled to compete in the 2021 FISU Winter Universiade in Switzerland before its cancellation – all suited up against the World Juniors hopefuls. Gricius – still in just his first year with the Dinos – recorded a goal and an assist in the two-game series.
WHERE WE LEFT OFF
The Dinos finished the first half of the season in fourth place in the conference after splitting their last weekend against the Regina Cougars. However, a mere four points separate fourth-place Calgary and second place in the nine-team race.
STARTING FRESH
Dinos head coach
Mark Howell has talked about the need for his team to find consistency throughout the fall. The Dinos will look to start fresh and find that consistency in the second half of their season as they look to catch up with the top teams in the conference. Calgary split all but one series during the fall semester, earning a sweep against the MacEwan Griffins in early November.
