Dinos host 'Horns in long-awaited home opener

| By:
CALGARY – For the first time since February 2020, a Canada West match will take place at the University of Calgary, as the No. 1-ranked Dinos women's soccer team holds their home opener.

The Dinos enter the third weekend of competition with a perfect 3-0 record and host a Lethbridge Pronghorn team that is 0-2 so far. The action gets started at 12 p.m. on Sunday at Dinosaur Field.

VETERAN LEADERSHIP
So far this season, the Dinos have received massive contributions from their seniors. Fifth-year midfielder Montana Loneard leads Canada West with five points and is tied for first with four goals through three games. Leonard is coming off a fantastic string of performances and earned Canada West player of the week honours in Week 1. Defender Amy Mikuska has a goal and three assists, while forward Kelsie MacDonald has a trio of helpers. The Dinos are carrying six fifth-year players on their roster in 2021.

FIRST IN THE NATION
The Dinos enter Sunday's matchup looking to show why they were given the top position in the first U SPORTS Top 10 rankings of the year. It is the first time since Sept. 15, 2002, the Dinos women's soccer team has been ranked No. 1. The Dinos were ranked third by Canada West coaches in the preseason poll after winning the conference title and finishing second at nationals in 2019.

FANTASTIC FRESHMAN
First-year Dinos midfielder Jayden Berg has quickly acclimated herself to Canada West soccer. The Calgary native joined the Dinos in 2020 and trained with the program throughout the nonseason. In 2021, Berg is one of only six Dinos to play all 270 minutes so far and registered her first collegiate goal in the second half of last Sunday's game versus the MacEwan Griffins.
